Wow! A quite poetic piece delivered by Mother NY for Missoni and Target. A nice statement on the importance and visibility of the modern day ‘fashion reporter’. Would have been nice to know who the actual creator was.
“Being flown over from Italy by Target to cover all the hottest shows. That helps. Getting decked out in head-to-toe Missoni. Pretty sweet. Going to all the right parties. Can’t hurt. Oh yeah, and then there’s being a 25-foot tall blogging, tweeting and texting doll. Meet Marina, the latest creation by Mother New York for Target.”

Effectively an open window in to the home, the XBox Kinect is a masterstroke of digital technology. It’s quite an impressive feat also to design something that is innocuous in the home yet also pretty iconic. I think Carbon Design Group have done a stirling job in the execution and in general they look a pretty sharp indutrial design facility. It’s hard to design in the home computer market with the shadow of the Apple design team constantly being cast, but these guys have done a damned fine job in giving Microsoft a strong look. It may only be to a few of their peripheral releases but I reckon given free reign they could really give Apple something to think about…well, from a design point anyways. It’s up to Microsoft to sort out their shitty operating system.

I love coke. Really I do. Particularly good when mixed with red wine. It’s called Kalimotxo. I wouldn’t serve it any posh dinner parties mind. I think it’s a bit of a pikey drink. hey ho. Anyways, if you aren’t in the mood for destroying a good bottle of red then keep the two separate and indulge in some vintage coke to go with the 1998 Chateauneuf-du -pape. You can get four of the original bottle designs over at Selfridges, London.

I heard about this material a little while ago and was really keen to work with it. Needlesstosay I didn’t, but some one else has and it looks pretty damned good.

Another week another PV. I enjoy these little outings with my illustrator friends as they are way more social and relaxed than other design evenings. Always a good mix of people too. This time it was off to see Paul Insect’s latest offerings at POW Gallery. I remember my first encounter with insect was a few years back just after he had done the DJ Shadow cover artwork. I had been roped in to going to Santa’s Ghetto (banksy’s Christmas shop thingy) that year. I say roped as it meant having to get up at 4 in the morning just to get a good spot in the inevitable queue. The reason for my attendance was that my flatmate at the time wanted to get a limited edition print for herself and her brother. You were only allowed one per person, hence me being there….I had agreed to the buying part yet was totally unawares of the incredibly early start. The ghetto was good fun, insect and a number of other artists were selling stuff alongside banksy, however because I was buying for someone else I couldn’t buy anything for me….ho well…charity gets you nowhere it seems. Who’d have thought it!
